This study is two-phased.
- It seeks to explore the lived experience of humanistic/person-centred psychotherapists who were the recipient of a complaint within the last 7 years that was not upheld by their accrediting body in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland as it was deemed to be frivolous.
- It seeks to explore the experiences of clinical supervisors who have supported a supervisee through the complaints process within the past 7 years to reflect on and discuss their experiences.
For the purpose of the study, I will be seeking 10 psychotherapists working from a humanistic/person-centred modality who have been the recipient of an unfounded frivolous complaint within the past 7 years and 10 clinical supervisors who have supported a supervisee through the complaints process within the past 7 years from both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The study will involve a one hour online recorded semi-structured interview discussing the participants'experiences.
As the nature of complaints can involve sensitive matters, policies are utilised to protect the privacy and well-being of all participants. Participants are not required to disclose any identifying information and pseudonyms will be used. Participants will not be required to identify any other parties to the complaint in their interviews. In the thesis, data will be presented in the form of themes and descriptions of the lived experience of the participants. All data will be anonymised.
